    Biography

    Dr. Samoylova is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she earned dual degrees in Biology and Literature, Dr. Samoylova subsequently earned both her MD and a Master of Advanced Studies in Clinical Research at UCSF. Her academic career has been defined by a strong commitment to translational and outcomes-based research, with more than 35 peer-reviewed publications spanning thoracic oncology, transplantation, surgical disparities, and health services research. Her recent scholarship has focused on thoracic surgical oncology, including disparities in thoracic surgery, systemic therapy for esophageal cancer, and comprehensive oncologic care.

    Dr. Samoylova has received numerous honors recognizing her clinical excellence, research accomplishments, and leadership, including the MD Anderson Robotics SimNow Olympics First Place Award, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association Carpenter Scholarship recipient, and multiple national presentations at Women in Thoracic Surgery and other leading surgical societies. She has also demonstrated a longstanding commitment to mentorship, diversity, equity, and surgical education through initiatives at Duke and MD Anderson aimed at improving trainee experience and advancing inclusive excellence within surgery.

    Her clinical and academic interests include thoracic surgical oncology, robotic thoracic surgery, esophageal and lung cancer, surgical quality improvement, and patient-centered cancer care. She is an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Women in Thoracic Surgery, and serves as a peer reviewer for several leading surgical journals including the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
